More About The Film

Starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay, Wonder (PG) is the story of Auggie Pullman, a 10-year-old boy who longs to be ordinary. He does ordinary things – eating ice cream, playing on his Xbox. He feels ordinary – inside. But ordinary kids don’t make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds and ordinary kids aren’t stared at wherever they go.

Born with a facial anomaly, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he’s being sent to a real school – and he’s dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted – but can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, underneath it all?

More About Changing Faces

Changing Faces is a charity that supports people who live with a mark, scar or condition that affects their appearance by helping them to live confident, happy and fulfilled lives. The charity stands up to prejudice in society and campaigns for ‘Face Equality’, the fair and equal treatment of all: regardless of appearance. In order to raise awareness in the community, the charity has a team of champions around the UK who share their experiences of living with a visible difference and challenge the stigma associated with it.

With the release of ‘Wonder’, the charity has taken the opportunity to delve deeper into the issues around growing up with a condition that affects your appearance. The film is a fantastic opportunity to bring about much needed discussion, and to bring about a shift in attitudes in viewers of all ages, and Changing Faces champions are sharing their stories alongside screenings of ‘Wonder’ in order for young people to understand how bullying that targets appearance can be incredibly hurtful, whilst challenging the negative perceptions that people might make about them and comparing the film to their own lives.

In order to delve deeper into the issues around the film, the charity has also created some interactive resources for schools which you can download for free and use for pre- and/or post-film lesson activities.
