English Literature
Below, is a selection of film adaptations, of key literary texts for GSCE + A Level English Literature syllabuses, that feature across OCR, AQA, Edexcel, WJEC Eduqas.
You can book a private screening of any of these films, for your students, on a weekday morning at your local Picturehouse cinema (subject to availability). We can also try to source a speaker to add to your experience (an additional fee may be incurred for this) or allow you extra time in the screen to hold your own discussion pre- or post film.

Kazuo Ishiguro's subtly brilliant sci-fi novel is given the compelling and confident cinematic treatment it so fully deserves. Ruth, Kathy and Tommy spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they must come to terms with the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.

A Streetcar Named Desire (12A)

Elia Kazan’s hothouse adaptation of Tennessee Williams’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1947 play. After the death of her husband, fading Southern belle Blanche Dubois is obliged to seek shelter with her sister in a tenement in New Orleans. Her presence provokes uncontrollable tensions – especially with brutal, virile brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski, played by a young Marlon Brando.

Great Expectations (12)

Mike Newell's visually stunning, star studded adaptation of Dickens' most enduring novel. Young orphan Pip is given a chance to rise from his humble beginnings thanks to a mysterious benefactor. Pip uses his new-found position to pursue the beautiful Estella, a spoilt heiress he’s loved since childhood. Yet the shocking truth behind this great fortune threatens everything he holds dear.

Jane Eyre (PG)

Based on the novel by Charlotte Brontë. After a loveless childhood, Jane Eyre goes out into the world to become a governess. As she lives happily in her new position at Thornfield Hall, where she meets the dark, cold, and abrupt master of the house, Mr. Rochester. Jane and her employer grow close in friendship and she soon finds herself falling in love with him. Happiness seems to have found Jane at last, but could Mr. Rochester and Thornfield Hall's eerie secret be about to destroy it forever?
