A moving account of research by a journalist (Kristin Scott Thomas) into a shameful incident in French history during the period of collaboration by the French government with the Nazi's. This intertwines with a story of a 10-year-old Jewish girl (Mélusine Mayance) from the same time.

The Book Thief (12)

Director: Brian Percival. UK.  2014. 130 mins.

Based on the novel by Marcus Zusak, The Book Thief tells the story of a young girl and her foster parents, who decide to shelter a Jewish friend during the period of Nazi control of Germany.

The Missing Picture 

Director: Rithy Panh, France/Cambodia.  2013. 92 mins.

 

An inventive documentary film about the Khmer Rouge.  Approximately half of the film is news and documentary footage, while the other half uses clay figurines to dramatise what happened in Cambodia when Pol Pot came to power.

The film was the Cambodian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards,
