Anti-Bullying Week 2019 (11-15 November) for KS2 & 3 (England) P4-S3 (Scotland): Change Starts With Us

If you'd like to come along to a screening between 11th - 15th November 2019, please register your interest. We will do our best to arrange for a Changing Faces ambassador to come to talk to your students. Tickets are £4.00 per student, accompanying teachers free (1:10 ratio). Please note that there may be other classes or schools in the screen with you. Sites and dates to be confirmed. To register your interest please get in touch.

For Anti-Bullying Week this year we are delighted to be working with the charity Changing Faces, which stands up to prejudice in society and campaigns for ‘Face Equality’: the fair and equal treatment of all.

We will be screening Wonder, the fantastic film adaptation of R.J.Palacio’s inspirational novel about a young boy born with a facial anomaly adapting to life at school, accompanied by a talk from a Changing Faces ambassador.
To help support your work back in the classroom, there are also teaching resources to accompany the film - one from Changing Faces with a PSHE focus, and another from Penguin about the book and the film with a Literacy focus.

These screenings will highlight key issues reflected in this year's Anti-Bullying Week theme, "Change Starts With us", and are also perfect for exploring a number of PSHE themes, including Bullying, Friendship, Family, Falling Out and Getting On.

Teaching Resources

Changing Faces have created some fantastic free resources around the film and some post-film discussion cards. Why not print them out and use them on your way back to school?
Penguin have also created a resource pack including lesson plans that have both a Literacy and a PSHE objective, as well as detailed reading cards which explore the themes of Judging by appearances, Humour and Storytelling.

More about WONDER (PG): Auggie Pullman is a 10-year-old boy who longs to be ordinary. He feels ordinary – inside. But ordinary kids aren’t stared at wherever they go. Born with a facial anomaly, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he’s being sent to a real school – and he’s dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted – but can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, underneath it all?
